What is Taboo! Dating?

Taboo! Dating is an adult dating and social community built exclusively for Second Life.

It was created for adults who are tired of being over-censored, tired of being told what they’re allowed to post, say, or be, and simply want a place where consenting adults can meet, connect, and express themselves freely.

Whether you’re looking for a serious relationship, casual dating, friendship, play partners, or simply like-minded people to socialize with, Taboo! Dating welcomes adults from every walk of life.

Our community includes members interested in traditional relationships, monogamy, polyamory, BDSM, Dominance and submission (D/s), kink, roleplay, and countless other lifestyles. Whatever your interests, you’ll find people here who understand that adulthood means respecting consent, boundaries, and personal choice.

More than just a dating service, Taboo! Dating is a growing social community where members share blogs, photos, confessions, gifts, and conversations while building genuine friendships and relationships both in and beyond Second Life.

If you’re an adult, enjoy Second Life, and believe adults should be free to be themselves, you’ll fit right in.

Where do I get the Taboo! Dating HUD?

The Taboo! Dating HUD is available FREE from our official in-world locations and on the Second Life Marketplace.

Simply visit a Taboo! Dating membership vendor and click GET HUD to receive your personal copy.

To help protect the community and ensure every account is linked to a real Second Life avatar, new accounts can only be created through the Taboo! Dating HUD.

After attaching the HUD, click the Home button on the left side of the HUD. Your Taboo! Dating account will be created automatically and linked to your Second Life avatar.

Welcome to the community! ❤️

What viewers are supported?

Taboo! Dating requires a Second Life viewer with Media-On-A-Prim support.

For the best experience, we recommend Firestorm or the official Second Life Viewer.

Some lightweight or older viewers may have limited media support, which can prevent parts of the HUD from functioning correctly.

Why isn’t my Taboo! Dating HUD responding?

If the Taboo! Dating HUD appears to load but clicking it doesn’t do anything, don’t panic! This is usually easy to fix.

First, try this:

  • Detach the Taboo! Dating HUD.
  • Reattach it and wait for it to finish loading.
  • Watch your Local Chat for the message:
Taboo HUD ready. Press Taboo! Dating/Home to connect.

Once you see this message:

  • Click the Home button on the left side of the HUD, not the large button in the center of the screen.
  • The HUD will load and the display may briefly turn white.
  • Once the screen turns white, simply click the white screen to continue.

Still having trouble?

Make sure another HUD isn’t overlapping the Taboo! Dating HUD. Even a partially overlapping HUD can prevent you from clicking buttons or interacting with the screen correctly.

If the problem continues, clear your viewer’s Browser/Media cache, reattach the HUD, and restart your viewer if necessary.

Why am I seeing a white screen?

A white screen usually means your viewer’s embedded browser failed to load the media page correctly.

Try the following:

  • Clear your browser/media cache.
  • Restart your viewer.
  • Restart your computer.
  • Disable any VPN temporarily.
  • Try the latest version of Firestorm or the official Second Life Viewer.

If the problem began after updating your viewer, the update may have affected your media settings.

I can’t type in my profile, messages, or anywhere else.

If clicking inside a text field doesn’t allow you to type, it’s usually one of two things.

First, make sure you’ve clicked somewhere on the Taboo! Dating HUD screen before clicking into the text field. This gives the HUD keyboard focus.

If that doesn’t help, check to make sure another HUD isn’t overlapping the Taboo! Dating HUD. Even if you can’t see it covering the text box, another HUD may be intercepting your mouse clicks and preventing you from interacting with the screen.

If you’re still unable to type:

  • Detach and reattach the Taboo! Dating HUD.
  • Wait until you see the message:
Taboo HUD ready. Press Taboo! Dating/Home to connect.
  • Click the Home button on the left side of the HUD.
  • Once the screen loads, click somewhere on the Taboo! Dating HUD before trying the text field again.

If you’re still having trouble after trying these steps, please contact support and let us know which viewer you’re using.

What is Error 105?

Error 105 usually means the Taboo! Dating HUD was unable to communicate with our servers. This is most often caused by a temporary network issue, your viewer’s embedded browser, or cached media data.

Before contacting support, try the following:

  • Detach and reattach the Taboo! Dating HUD.
  • Wait until you see the message:
Taboo HUD ready. Press Taboo! Dating/Home to connect.
  • Click the Home button on the left side of the HUD.
  • Once the screen loads, click the HUD screen to continue.

If you’re still receiving Error 105:

  • Clear your viewer’s Browser/Media Cache.
  • Relog into Second Life.
  • Restart your internet connection if you’re using Wi-Fi.
  • Temporarily disable any VPN or proxy service.
  • Restart your viewer.

If the error continues after trying these steps, there may be a temporary network issue or service interruption. Please contact support and include:

  • The viewer you’re using.
  • The exact error message.
  • What you were trying to do when the error occurred.

The more information you can provide, the faster we can help resolve the problem.

How do I temporarily hide my profile or control my privacy?

Taboo! Dating gives you extensive control over who can see your profile and interact with you.

To change your privacy settings:

  • Click your name at the very top of the page.
  • Select Privacy.

From there, you can choose Everybody, Friends, or Only Me for many different parts of your profile, including:

  • Who can view your profile.
  • Whether your online presence is visible when you’re logged in.
  • Who can invite you to chat.
  • Who can view your photo albums.
  • Who can view your friends list.
  • Who can view or comment on your Confessions.
  • And many other privacy options throughout the site.

This allows you to make your profile as open or as private as you’re comfortable with.

Please note: Some privacy changes may take a few minutes to fully take effect across the site, so don’t be alarmed if they aren’t reflected immediately.

Should I use my Real Life age or my Second Life age?

We encourage members to use their real-life age, as it helps create more honest expectations and meaningful connections.

However, if you prefer to use your Second Life avatar’s age, that’s perfectly acceptable too, provided your avatar is at least 18 years old.

The age you display is ultimately your choice. What’s most important is that you’re honest about who you are and treat other members with respect.

Please remember: You must be 18 years of age or older to use Taboo! Dating. If there is reason to believe a member is underage, their account may be suspended while their age is verified.

How do I edit my profile?

Keeping your profile up to date helps other members get to know the real you.

To edit your profile:

  • Click your name in the upper-right corner of the page.
  • Select Profile Edit.

From there, you can update your profile information, interests, relationship preferences, biography, photos, and many other details about yourself.

Tip: A complete profile with recent photos and honest information is much more likely to receive attention from other members.

How do I change my Match Preferences?

Your Match Preferences help Taboo! Dating introduce you to members you’re more likely to enjoy meeting.

To update your Match Preferences:

  • Click your name in the upper-right corner of the page.
  • Select Matchmaking Preferences.

From there, you can adjust the types of members you’re interested in meeting based on the available preference options.

Remember: Your Match Preferences directly influence your compatibility percentages and the members recommended to you. Keeping them up to date will help you receive better matches.

How do I upload or change my profile picture?

Your profile picture is one of the first things other members notice, so keeping it current is always a good idea.

To upload or change your avatar:

  • Go to your Dashboard.
  • Hover your mouse over your current profile picture.
  • Click the Change Avatar button.

From there, you can:

  • Upload a brand new picture from your computer.
  • Choose one of the photos you’ve already uploaded to Taboo! Dating.

Tip: Clear, recent profile pictures generally receive more profile views and help other members recognize you throughout the community.

How do I send someone a message?

There are several ways to start a conversation with another member on Taboo! Dating.

You can send a message by:

  • Clicking the Chat icon on a member’s profile picture.
  • Opening the member’s profile, clicking the More button next to their profile picture, and selecting Send Message.
  • Opening an existing conversation from your Messages page.
  • Messaging a member after you’ve both matched in the Would You? section.

Taboo! Dating is both a dating platform and an adult social community, so there are several ways to meet and communicate with other members.

Please remember: Be respectful when contacting other members. Not everyone is looking for the same type of relationship, and “No” is always a complete answer. Members who repeatedly harass others may have their accounts suspended or permanently removed.

Why do I need Credits or a Membership to send messages?

To help reduce spam and encourage meaningful conversations, Taboo! Dating requires members to have either Credits or an active Membership before starting a new conversation.

Once your profile has been completed, you can begin new conversations by:

  • Using Credits you’ve earned by participating in the community.
  • Purchasing a Membership, which allows you to start new conversations without spending credits.

Credits are earned simply by participating in the community. Logging in each day, completing your profile, uploading photos, participating in Speed Dating, answering questions, posting Confessions, and many other activities all reward credits.

Some actions earn credits while others spend them. To see the current credit values and your personal credit history:

  • Go to your Dashboard.
  • Locate the Credits section.
  • Click Cost of Actions to see what activities earn or spend credits.
  • Click History to view your personal credit transactions.

If you use Taboo! Dating regularly, a Membership is often the best value. It removes the need to spend credits when starting new conversations while helping support the continued development of the community.

Tip: The more active you are in the community, the more opportunities you’ll have to earn credits!

Why don’t I have any matches?

Finding the right people takes time. Some members make connections immediately, while others take a little longer. Don’t get discouraged!

If you’re not getting many matches, here are a few things you can do to improve your chances:

  • Complete your profile with honest information.
  • Upload several clear photos that show your personality.
  • Take time to fill out your interests and relationship preferences.
  • Review your Match Preferences to make sure you’re not unintentionally filtering out people you would otherwise enjoy meeting.
  • Be active! Members who log in regularly, participate in the community, write blogs, comment on posts, and interact with others naturally become more visible.

Remember that Taboo! Dating is more than just a dating app—it’s an adult social community. Many great friendships and relationships begin through conversations in blogs, comments, confessions, photos, groups, and community activities before they ever become a match.

The best advice? Be yourself. Complete your profile honestly, participate in the community, and let people get to know the real you. Genuine connections almost always last longer than ones built around trying to impress everyone.

How do matches work?

There are two different kinds of “matches” on Taboo! Dating.

Mutual Likes

In the Would You? section, if you and another member both choose Like, you’ll become a mutual match and can start getting to know each other.

Compatibility Match Percentage

The match percentage shown on member profiles is something entirely different.

Your compatibility score is calculated using a variety of factors, including your shared interests, profile information, and the preferences you’ve selected for the kinds of people you’re interested in meeting.

The goal isn’t simply to find people who are alike. It’s to help introduce you to people you’re more likely to enjoy talking to and spending time with.

As for the exact formula…

That’s one of Taboo! Dating’s little secrets. ? Our matching algorithm is constantly being refined, and while we’re happy to tell you what it considers, the exact recipe is part of the magic.

The best advice? Be honest when filling out your profile and your match preferences. The more accurately they reflect who you are and what you’re looking for, the better your matches are likely to be.

I accidentally unmatched someone.

Don’t worry—it happens!

Unlike some dating platforms, unmatching someone on Taboo! Dating doesn’t necessarily mean you’ve lost all contact with them.

If you know who the member is, you can often find their profile again through searches, blogs, photos, activity feeds, mutual friends, or other areas of the community and reconnect from there.

If you’re having trouble finding the member or believe you unmatched someone by accident, feel free to contact support. While we can’t guarantee every match can be restored, we’re always happy to help when we can.

One or more of my matches disappeared.

If you can no longer find one of your matches, there are a few possible reasons:

  • They chose to unmatch you.
  • They blocked you.
  • They deleted their account.
  • Their account was removed for violating the Community Standards.

While it can be disappointing, it’s important to remember that everyone has the right to decide who they interact with.

If someone chooses to move on, we encourage you to do the same. There are plenty of amazing people in the Taboo! Dating community, and your next great conversation may be just around the corner.

If you believe a match disappeared because of a technical problem rather than one of the reasons above, feel free to contact support and we’ll be happy to investigate.

How do I block someone?

Sometimes personalities simply don’t click, and that’s perfectly okay. If you’d prefer not to interact with another member, you can block them at any time.

To block a member:

  • Open the member’s profile.
  • Click the More button next to their profile picture.
  • Select Block.
  • You’ll be asked to confirm that you want to block the member. Click Block to confirm.

Blocked members are not notified that they’ve been blocked.

If you change your mind later, you can unblock them at any time:

  • Open your own profile.
  • Click More.
  • Select Unblock.

Please remember: Blocking someone is a personal choice and doesn’t necessarily mean they’ve violated the Community Standards. If a member is harassing you, threatening you, spamming you, or otherwise violating our Community Standards, please report them as well so our staff can investigate.

How do I report someone?

If you encounter a member who is violating the Community Standards, please let us know. Reports help us keep Taboo! Dating a safe and enjoyable place for everyone.

To report a member:

  • Open the member’s profile.
  • Click the More button.
  • Select Flag.
  • Choose the reason for your report:
    • Spam
    • Offensive Content
    • Illegal Content

If you’d like to provide additional information, screenshots, or explain the situation in more detail, you can send a private message to Wolverat through Taboo! Dating.

Every report is reviewed by a member of our staff. Depending on the situation, we may issue a warning, remove content, suspend the account, or permanently ban the member.

Please use the reporting system responsibly. Reports should only be submitted for genuine violations of our Community Standards. Filing false or malicious reports to harass other members may itself result in moderation of your account.

How do I delete my account?

If you decide Taboo! Dating isn’t for you, you can permanently delete your account at any time.

To delete your account:

  • Click your name in the upper-right corner of the page.
  • Select Profile Edit.
  • Scroll to the bottom of the page.
  • Click Delete Profile.

You’ll be asked to confirm your decision before your account is permanently removed.

Please note: Deleting your account is permanent and cannot be undone. Once your account has been deleted, your profile, messages, matches, blogs, photos, gifts, and other associated account information cannot be restored.

If you’re unable to access your account or experience any problems deleting it, please contact support and we’ll be happy to help.

How do I upload photos?

You can upload photos to Taboo! Dating from the Photos section.

To upload photos:

  • Click Photos on the menu under the banner with the Taboo! Dating logo.
  • Click Upload Photos.
  • Drag images into the upload area or select images from your computer.
  • Wait for the images to appear on the screen.
  • Scroll to the bottom of the form and click Submit.

Important: Photos must be uploaded from your computer. Uploading directly from Second Life inventory items will not work.

You can also choose whether your photos go into a new album or an existing album. Albums may be set as public, friends only, or password protected.

Please note: The Submit button is at the bottom of the upload form. In some viewers or layouts, it may look like a red line. If you don’t see it right away, scroll all the way down to the bottom.

How do I send a gift?

Sending a gift is a fun way to let another member know you’re thinking about them.

To send a gift:

  • Open the member’s profile.
  • Click the More button next to their profile picture.
  • Select Send Gift.
  • Choose the gift you’d like to send.

Free members will spend the required number of Credits for the gift they choose.

If you’re an active Member, gifts are included as part of your membership and no credits are deducted.

Tip: Gifts are a great way to break the ice or brighten someone’s day without having to start with a long message.

How do Friend Requests work?

Friend Requests are a great way to keep up with members you enjoy interacting with.

To send a Friend Request:

  • Open the member’s profile.
  • Click the Add to Friends button next to their profile picture.

Once they accept your request, you’ll become friends.

Friends help personalize your experience on Taboo! Dating. Activity from your friends is more likely to appear in your Dashboard Newsfeed, making it easier to keep up with the people you enjoy following.

Remember: Being Friends and being a Match are two different things. You can be one, both, or neither.

How do Confessions work?

Confessions let you share your thoughts, fantasies, opinions, stories, or questions with the community completely anonymously.

When you post a Confession, your identity is never shown to other members.

Whether you’re asking for advice, sharing something funny, confessing a secret, or simply starting a conversation, nobody else will know who posted it.

Please remember: Anonymous does not mean exempt from the Community Standards. Illegal content, threats, harassment, spam, or other prohibited content may still be moderated.

Taboo! Dating allows you to share links to some of your favorite social profiles directly on your member profile.

Currently supported social links include:

  • Primfeed
  • Discord
  • Flickr
  • SoundCloud

Additional social platforms may be added in the future based on community feedback and demand.

Tip: Keeping your social links up to date makes it easier for friends and potential matches to connect with you beyond Taboo! Dating.

Can I advertise my club, event, or business?

Absolutely!

Taboo! Dating encourages Second Life creators, club owners, DJs, photographers, performers, merchants, and businesses to share what they do with the community.

If you’re interested in placing regular advertisements throughout the site, please contact:

  • Zanidu Titian in Second Life
  • Wolverat through Taboo! Dating

We’ll be happy to discuss the advertising options that are currently available.

How do in-world notifications work?

Taboo! Dating can notify you in-world whenever something important happens on your account.

When you receive certain notifications, an object in Second Life will automatically send you an instant message letting you know there’s something waiting for you on Taboo! Dating.

You’ll receive notifications for events such as:

  • New Messages
  • New Gifts
  • New Matches

The notification is simply there to let you know something has happened—you can then visit Taboo! Dating to read your message, view your gift, or see your new match.

Tip: If you’re not receiving in-world notifications, make sure you haven’t muted the Taboo! Dating notification object and that you’re able to receive instant messages while you’re online.
