1. Even if your connection wasn’t instantaneous, it was different from what you normally experience.
Maybe you got along really well right away, or maybe it took some time. Either way, you open up to this person like absolutely nobody else before. You could talk to them for hours, and still not run out of things to say. Even if you haven’t known them for long, it feels like they’ve been in your life forever.
2. You’re completely comfortable with them.
There are really two types of friendship we experience, the friends who we enjoy spending time with but can’t completely relax around, and the friends who we are so comfortable around, things like occasional mutual silence in the car, opening up about honest thoughts and feelings, and showing up in sweats and t-shirts is just the norm.
3. This person feels like family.
In the same way that you feel so close, protective and connected to members of your family that you love, you have that same sense with them. They feel more like family than friends.
4. You talk about the future.
This person inspires you to move forward. Together, you talk about your goals, dreams, and what life has in store for you. You know that you’ll be spending a lot of time together as the years go on, because what you want is so similar, and you’re really building those dreams together.
5. You see the best in each other.
While inauthentic friends will often be nice to your face but doubt you behind your back, your true, life-long friends see the best in you absolutely no matter what. They believe in your potential, they accept your apologies, and they know who you really are deep down.
6. Seeing each other is effortless.
You don’t have to go back and forth trying to figure out when you might be able to carve out time in your schedule to see one another, being together is just such an essential part of your daily routine that it doesn’t really even come up.
7. You’d call them in an emergency.
The true test of love and friendship is not just who you’d celebrate with when things are going well, but who you’d call when they aren’t.
8. They make life feel more worth living.
In your hardest moments, you remember their friendship and all of a sudden, the world doesn’t seem like such a bad place. They are a constant reminder that many people have good hearts, that you are loved, that you do belong, and that life really is worth it when you have someone to weather the highs and lows with.
